Home improvement projects are not only a luxury, sometimes they are also a necessity.  When it comes to remodeling your children’s bathrooms, there are a few things you want to take into consideration before taking that first step in the remodel.  Unlike a kitchen remodel or a living room remodel, a children’s bathroom remodel is something that they might grow out of in a few years.  For that reason alone, careful consideration and a plan beforehand is essential in planning the remodel.  Also, beyond actually looking at elements of the actual design and colors, it’s also a good idea to make sure everything in the bathroom is working correctly, such as water pressure, faulty toilets, etc.  If you do have any issues with the water in your kid’s bathroom, you will need to look into water heater repair in Jacksonville FL. Here are a few tips on how to go about remodeling your child’s bathroom.

Paint Colors:  Chances are if you have a separate bathroom for your kids and you haven’t changed it in a while, you have nursery type motifs and colors.  That was great when they were little.  But, now that they are getting a little older, your children might want something a little more their age.  If you are having a really hard time picking out which colors to use, try not to get frustrated!  One idea is to pull in colors from their bedroom if it’s an adjoining room.  For example, if your child is a male and he has baby blue walls in his bedroom with a comforter that is another color of blue and an orange trim – or even orange colored pictures on his wall, drag that color gently into his bathroom.  You can use accent accessories like 3 orange towels and 2 blue towels.  Or you can hang a picture up in the bathroom with a wooden frame, orange matte and a blue car.

Kid-Friendly:  If your child is still on the smaller side, you need to make the bathroom functional and friendly.  You can still make a nice bathroom design while also adding in functional items to keep organized and stay safe.  For example, if you have a counter that is a little higher than you would like, but you don’t exactly have the budget to rip the entire unit out, you can actually install a pull-out stepping stool for your child.  It goes right underneath the frame and while it might take over some closet space, it will be something interesting and yet functional for your child.  The stool, when not in use, can be pushed back into a hidden space so it’s not out where children or parents can trip over it and it keeps the room organized.  Other ideas that are functional and great for organizing are side closets that you would install on both sides of the sink and countertops.

Creativity From Your Child:  Even the littlest accessory can “make” a room.  While you might not want your kids to pick the paint colors, they can pick little odds and ends like the knobs for the towel rack or the knobs for the counter and storage space.  There are all kinds of colors and styles.  You can make it really sophisticated with traditional metal or acrylic knobs.  Or, you can do something a little more creative, perhaps little wooden knobs that are cut made to look like fish or seahorses.  You can then find these painted in all sorts of colors to match your child’s bathroom decor and style.

Waterworks:  Going back to what was touched on above, you will need to figure out if everything in the bathroom is in working order. This includes shower and faucet pressure, if the toilet “runs” or doesn’t flush correctly.  If these are issues, they will have to be dealt with before anything else is done. Usually, when you find a toilet that runs or water that isn’t pressurized enough, it’s an easy fix. It is possible that your water heater is in need of a new valve or needs to be maintained.  But, if you want to forego future issues, it’s better to make sure you fix them correctly now. One of the biggest issues with remodeling a bathroom, especially one that you have not used for a while, is the fact that the water is not hot enough or pressurized.  But, if you find that this is an issue throughout your entire house, it would be a good time to look into water heater repair Jacksonville FL.  If this is a big enough issue, you might have to take money out of your remodeling budget to get this fixed first before anything else.
